Each year the Haysville Optimist Club works in unison with Optimist International in conducting its Oratorical Contest. There is no minimum age requirement; however, contestants shall not have attained the age of 16 years prior to or on January 1st of the current school year. Students are eligible to compete on club, district, and national levels. One year we had a repeat winner. It's very rewarding to know that the Oratorical Contest experience is so positive that students participate in it more than once. This is, justifiably, Optimist International's 2nd most popular program. Over $159,000 in scholarships are awarded in conjunction with this contest. Our local club offers a $100 scholarship for the girl winner (if 3 girls participate) and a $100 scholarship for the boy winner (if 3 boys participate.
